We at the Y are excited to announce the creation of our inaugural Hall of Fame and invite you to submit nominations for its first slate of honorees.
“The YMCA was founded in the Auburn area in 1868 and has been a mainstay at its current location on Turner Street since 1922,” states CEO Steven Wallace.
“We are creating the YMCA Hall of Fame to recognize the many men and women whose ‘extraordinary and tangible’ contributions have helped the YMCA accomplish its community mission over the past 147 years.”
Inductees will be chosen by the Hall of Fame Selection Committee and announced in October. A formal celebration will take place at the YMCA's Annual Meeting at Martindale Country Club in December. We invite you to make your nominations for our inaugural Hall of Fame celebration using our online form. (A paper form is also available.)
Nominees may be current or former staff, volunteers, Y members, board memembers, ambassadors, advocates or community partners. Anyone may submit a nomination, to include nominations by friends or relatives of deceased candidates. Selected inductees will represent inspirational leadership and dedication to our Y’s mission and the broader movement, touching lives in the dozens, hundreds, or even thousands.
The inaugural selection committee will be chaired by Beth Shea, former President of the YMCA Board and Auburn resident. She will lead a diverse committee to review nominations and ultimately recommend a potential honoree slate to the Y’s current board of directors for approval.
