Lewiston-Auburn has the highest rate of childhood lead poisoning in the state, and Healthy Androscoggin is working with the YMCA to help inform others how they can prevent lead poisoning. Join Katie Boss on Tuesday, January 10, to talk about Lead Poisoning Prevention.
Lead is a neurotoxin that is especially harmful to children under six years old. Lead is found in many places but lead in paint poses the highest risk to children. Lead paint is most frequently found in homes built before 1978, and is a danger when it is chipping and peeling – creating dangerous lead dust that settles on floors and windowsills where children and infants can touch and ingest it by chewing on toys, putting their hands in their mouths, and eating without washing their hands.
Pre-registration is required. Visit the Welcome Center or call 207-795-4095 for more information.
