Flooding Incident at YMCA, 62 Turner Street

November 19, 2017

LATEST UPDATE as of Tuesday, January 16

We are very excited to announce...

At this exact moment, there are a few showers and sinks in the basement level locker rooms that still have cold or lukewarm water. We have a technician coming tomorrow to adjust the mixing unit to fix this issue. In the meantime, please test the temperature of the water before using the showers, just to be safe!

Although we have restored hot water, we are still in the process of accessing and repairing our pool. All Y members may use the pool at the YWCA in Lewiston or visit any other YMCA nationwide free of charge. To anyone participating in Twin City Swim Team, please refer to Coach Tom for updates. All current swim lessons have been canceled until further notice.

We will be sure to send an update as soon as we have more information regarding our aquatics programs.

LATEST UPDATE as of Wednesday, January 4

While we recover from the flooding incident, please note that we are still without the following:

  • Hot Water
  • Steam Rooms
  • Pool (All aquatics programs)

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience while we continue repairing these amenities.

Friday Nov. 24:
Good Evening, YMCA Members, Volunteers, and Staff! We hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving!

Despite the short work week, our team has been extra busy bringing life back to 62 Turner Street! Due to the flooding incident this past Sunday, Nov. 19, we have been making repairs and upgrades to our heating and electrical systems. This has truly been a community effort, and we could not be more grateful to everyone who has come out to help, nor to all of you for your patience and understanding. A big thank you to the following partners for their hard work and dedication:
Thayer Corporation
St Laurent
Auburn Fire Department
Service Master
Snow Electrical
The City of Auburn
The State of Maine
Maine Fuel Board
YWCA of Lewiston

We will open this Monday, November 27 at noon. Please check our website to confirm as this date approaches.

All of our programming will return with the exception of Aquatics. To anyone participating in Twin City Swim Team, please refer to Coach Tom for updates. He and Steve are working hard to find a temporary practice location. All current swim lessons have been canceled moving forward, and participants will be reimbursed starting next week. Future programming will be planned and scheduled based on the progress of repairs to the pool and its systems.
For those members who participate in Adult Lap Swim, the YWCA in Lewiston has graciously offered their pool to any Y  member free of charge. Please visit their website for available lap times.
We would also like to thank the Y at CMMC Team for extending their hours this past week and hosting extra Group Exercise classes. Starting Monday at noon, all Group Ex. classes will resume their normal schedule at 62 Turner St.

While we have been working hard to restore heat and electricity to the Y, our facility is still without hot water. We apologize for the inconvenience, and ask for your patience while we continue working on this issue. Please be advised if planning to shower!
Both Childcare and After-School Care will return Monday. Please note, Childcare will not be available before noon. If you have specific questions, please call or email Tina Jennings.

Again, we thank you for your kind words, patience, and continuous support. We are very excited to see you all on Monday!
